Halloween Cupcakes. Spider Web Cupcake

The Halloween Season is coming around again. So I decided to make a batch of vanilla cupcakes ready to be decorated in lots of different ways for the 31st of October. I followed the recipe below but as you can see I have added some red colouring to some cakes and some black swirls to a few others so I can use these in the design ideas.

This is the recipe for basic Vanilla cupcakes which make about 9 large size or 14 fairy cake size
Ingredients
4 oz--110 gm--1/2 cup sugar
4 oz--110 gm--1/2 cup unsalted butter or margarine
4 oz--110 gm--1 cup plain flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
2 eggs
The seeds from 1 vanilla pod or 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
1 tablespoon of milk

Method
Cream the butter and sugar
Add the eggs one at a time and mix in well.
Add the vanilla essence and milk
Sieve in the flour and baking powder
Mix gently together
Put into cupcake cases
Bake at gas 5, 375F, 190C for 20 minutes with large cases or 12 to 14 minutes for small ones
Cool
Add colouring at the end of the mixing such as red, yellow, black or orange.

The completed cupcakes ready to be decorated.

I took one cupcake which had been coloured red and used writing icing to create a spider web. I added silver balls to give the effect of water on a web or dew on a web.

How can I get orange frosting? I am new to baking and want to make 24 spider cupcakes for my son's class. Thanks!

Hi. I use equal quantities of red and yellow food colouring and add this to the cupcake frosting. You may be able to find orange food colouring at a supermarket or order some from a specialist supplier online. I would add 1/2 teaspoon of each colour see how it looked if I was making about 20 cupcakes and add more if necessary.
Thanks for coming to the site
and enjoy your baking. Crazycupcakes
